The Private Label Strategy: How to Meet the Store Brand Challenge, author Jan-Benedict E.M. Steenkamp investigates worldwide marketing, the efficacy of marketing tactics such as branding, private labels, and new goods, interorganizational connections, and marketing research methodologies. He teaches these subjects, as well as creativity and strategy. Dr. Steenkamp is the co-author, with Nirmalya Kumar of London Business School, of Private Label Strategy: How to Meet the Store Brand Challenge (Harvard Business School Press, 2007). He is an award-winning researcher who has published or edited five books and has over 100 scholarly papers to his credit. He is also the executive director of AiMark, a worldwide center that brings together academics from across the world, two of the top-four market research companies, and brand manufacturers to investigate major marketing strategy challenges. He has advised firms such as Procter & Gamble, Kraft, Unilever, Reckitt Benckiser, Zurich Financial Services, KPMG, Sara Lee, and Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Steenkamp is a member of the editorial boards of all of the leading marketing publications and is the former editor of the International Journal of Research in Marketing. The Muller lifetime prize was presented to him by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences for remarkable contributions in the behavioral and social sciences. It was the first time the award was given to a researcher in any field of business administration. He has taught in universities in Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain, South Africa, and the United States before joining UNC Kenan-Flagler. He earned his PhD, master's, and bachelor's degrees at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, all of which were summa cum laude.
