Jay Cassidy Biography

He began his career in documentaries and political advertising in the 1970s. He has had a significant cooperation with Sean Penn, having edited all of Penn's films. Cassidy began his career editing Charles Guggenheim's documentary film High Schools (1984); more recently, he has edited many films by Guggenheim's son Davis Guggenheim, including An Inconvenient Truth (2006). Cassidy was nominated for an Academy Award for Film Editing as well as an ACE Eddie Award for his work on Into the Wild (directed by Sean Penn - 2007). Silver Linings Playbook earned him his second Academy Award nomination for Film Editing in 2012. For An Inconvenient Truth, he received the Eddie Award for Best Documentary Editing (directed by Davis Guggenheim - 2006). Both High Schools and An Inconvenient Truth were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, which was won by An Inconvenient Truth. Cassidy has been elected to the American Cinema Editors' Guild. Cassidy was the winner of The New Yorker's Cartoon Caption Contest #39 on February 27, 2006.
