Javier Blas was named commodities editor of the Financial Times in 2010, after joining the publication as a commodities reporter in 2007. He oversees a team of correspondents located in London, Beijing, and New York who cover the markets for oil, metals, and agricultural commodities, as well as trading houses and natural resource geopolitics. Previously, he covered the foreign economy for Expansion, Spain's biggest business newspaper. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization awarded Mr. Blas the A. H. Boerma Award for his coverage of the 2007-08 food crisis. He was born in Spain and holds a BA/MA in journalism from the University of Navarra, where he specialized in business journalism. In addition, he studied political communication at Sheffield University in the United Kingdom.
