Trennert was the chief investment strategist and senior managing director of International Strategy & Investment (ISI) Group prior to creating Strategas, where he created and supervised two of the firm's most prominent and significant research initiatives, its company surveys and investment strategy divisions.

Trennert is the treasurer and a member of the Board of Trustees of La Scuola d'Italia, the country's first K-12 bilingual school where students are taught in both Italian and English.

He is also a member of the Columbus Citizens Foundation's Board of Governors, a non-profit organization dedicated to developing an awareness of Italian-American history and offering scholarships to deserving students. He holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and a B.S. in international economics from Georgetown University.
