Jasandra Nyker Biography

Ms Nyker is the CEO of BioTherm Energy, a renewable energy investment and independent project development platform based in Sub-Saharan Africa. In Round I of the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Program, BioTherm is nearing financial close on three referred bidder renewable projects. Ms. Nyker formerly oversaw the direct investment portfolio for the PCG Clean Energy and Technology Fund, a $680 million global energy and clean technology investment fund. She was instrumental in transaction sourcing, due diligence, investment execution, and postinvestment management. She analyzed and assessed approximately 700 investment prospects as part of her work, and she invested in 13 firms across different subsectors, technologies, and regions. Green infrastructure investments (sugar ethanol, co-generation, wind projects, and solar base-load applications) were included in the portfolio, as were solar technology, wind turbines, water (desalination, purification), and energy efficiency technologies. Ms. Nyker has served as a board director on four portfolio firms (Brazil and the United States) and as a board observer on three others. Following the investment, she was heavily involved in company development, financing (debt and follow-on equity), and worldwide market expansion. She also served as an advisor to the Energy Venture Fund of a Middle Eastern National Oil Company. Ms. Nyker formerly worked at Booz Allen Hamilton in London, where she specialized on alternative energy and private equity projects. She spent a substantial amount of time developing and investing in an alternative energy fund for one of the Middle East's largest national oil corporations, for which she later oversaw several alternative energy investments. She formerly worked at Lehman Brothers in London. In South Africa, she also worked at Brait Private Equity and Nedcor Investment Bank. Ms. Nyker earned an MBA from London Business School, where she was a Merrill Lynch Scholar, as well as a Business Science degree in Finance from the University of Cape Town. Ms Nyker was born in South Africa. She was just named a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader for 2012, and she is now a member of the Global Agenda Council on New Energy Architecture.
