Jamie McDonald has become something of an adventurer, despite all odds. Jamie spent the first nine years of his life in and out of hospitals due to syringomyelia, a rare spine ailment. Jamie's health was deteriorating due to a weakened immune system and epilepsy. He received treatment at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and London's Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.
Jamie attributed the improvement in his symptoms to an effort to become more active when he was nine years old.
