James McGirt Biography

James McGirt won the IBF world junior welterweight title in 1988, avenging his sole loss against Frankie Warren. He lost the championship against Meldrick Taylor in his second defense. He defeated Simon Brown to win the WBC world welterweight title three years later. McGirt was defeated by Pernell Whitaker for the championship in 1993. In an effort to reclaim the championship the following year, he was defeated by Whitaker once again. McGirt retired in 1997 with a 73-6-1 record (48 KOs).
