After determining that teaching high school history was not her calling, Jackie Harry began acting. She began her career on the New York stage after studying acting at the Henry Street Settlement on the Lower East Side. As a chorus girl in the off-Broadway production of A Broadway Musical in 1978, she made her professional acting debut.
She continues to participate in Broadway and off-Broadway productions such as Eubie! and The Wiz. She portrayed Lily Mason in the daytime soap Another World from 1983 to 1986, with other African Americans such as Petronia Paley, Michele Shay, and an unknown Morgan Freeman. She appeared as a surprise guest on the SOAPnet-produced and televised Another World Reunion in 2003.
