Iqbal Mahmoud Al Assad was born in Palestine but fled to Lebanon as a child. She finished high school at the age of 12 and graduated from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar with a degree in general medicine at the age of 20.
After finishing her medical certification at the age of 20, she was recognized as the youngest Arab doctor. She is also regarded as one of the most powerful ladies in the Arab world. After observing the gaps in healthcare among Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, she sought a residency in pediatrics at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital.
