About Inxs
Inxs Biography
Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence were both in high school when they first met. They first met when Andrew intervened in a quarrel in which Michael was engaged. The two became immediate friends and discovered that they had a deep interest in the same thing - music. By the conclusion of their high school years, around 1977, Andrew, his two brothers Tim and Jon, Kirk Pengilly, Garry Gary Beers, and Michael had established a band named The Farriss Brothers. Within a few years, the sextet perfected their sound and renamed themselves INXS (pronouned IN EXCESS.) The Perth, Australia-based band had no idea the amount of success that awaited them in the years ahead. Simple Simon, their debut single, was greatly influenced by the fading punk movement and also found roots in ska and pop. With their first song completed, the band began touring the Australian continent, gradually establishing a fan base in the pub touring scene. INXS's early commitment to traveling aided in establishing their credentials and establishing a solid fan base of support. During their early years, they are reported to have played almost 360 concerts each year in Australia's steamy pubs. It certainly paid off.... The band's self-titled debut album, INXS, was released on Deluxe Records in 1980. Just Keep Walking was their first huge success in Australia, and it was shortly followed by their second album, Underneath the Colours, in 1981. These two albums, along with continuous traveling, helped them fine-tune their sound and approach, paving the way for the highly popular Shabooh Shoobah album. This famous record, published in 1983, was the first INXS album to be distributed globally, and it had a huge impact. The album's biggest song, The One Thing, was a worldwide smash hit, and INXS began the road to world dominance with the assistance of a worldwide tour. The album is particularly significant since it is the first to exhibit the INXS signature dance rock style. The One Thing was followed by a run of successes, including Black and White and Don't Change, which is still considered by many fans to be the best INXS song of all time. The Swing was released by the band in 1984. With legendary hits like Original Sin, Burn For You, and Melting in the Sun, The Swing propelled INXS to the pinnacle of rockdom. Original Sin, the album's debut hit, established what the band had always sought to achieve with the aid of Nile Rodgers: make rock music danceable. The contentious song about interracial couples has been banned in a number of nations, including the United States. INXS' collaborative collaboration with director Richard Lowenstein began with Burn For You. Lowenstein directed the video for the song and has subsequently directed videos for most of INXS's subsequent hits. The record, The Swing, was a worldwide success, becoming one of the top five best-selling albums in Australian music history. Though INXS was well-known around the world, it wasn't until 1985's Listen Like Thieves that they became household names. The album was the first to be certified platinum (1 million units sold) in the United States, and it included their first US Top 10 hit, What You Need. Two factors contributed to their rising popularity: their own brand of rock rhythms and their ongoing global touring. This Time, What You Need, Listen Like Thieves, and Kiss the Dirt are among the album's singles (Falling Down the Mountain). The band proceeded to spread out and diversify in the time between Listen Like Thieves and their following album. Michael Hutchence made his acting debut with his unforgettable performance in Lowenstein's Dogs in Space, which featured the Australian hit song Rooms for the Memory. American Anthem, Crocodile Dundee, Pretty in Pink, and, most memorably, The Lost Boys were among the soundtracks to which the band contributed songs. INXS exploded into one of the most renowned bands in the world... ever... in 1987. Kick not only sold 4 million copies in the United States, but also 10 million copies globally, and it is still regarded as one of the most renowned albums of all time. The first song, Need You Tonight, reached number one in the United States and many other countries, and went on to win five prizes at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1988. Devil Inside, New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart, and Guns in the Sky are among the album's many successes. The record included killer hooks and rhythms, fantastic melodies, and well-written lyrics, among other things. INXS had finally conquered the globe after two great stadium tours. The band's triumph, however, came at a great cost, and they took a two-year hiatus to recover from the INXS mania that had swept the world. Another Kick, in Hutchence's words, would be the band's demise. During the subsequent hiatus, each member went his or her own way to focus on solo projects. Hutchence's most noteworthy side project was his collaboration with Australian punk singer Ollie Olson on the Max Q album. The CD was a hit on the alternative music scene and is a tribute to originality and ingenuity. INXS returned in 1990 with X, named to honor 10 years of recording. Suicide Blonde, Disappear, Bitter Tears, and By My Side were among the album's platinum hits. Their second world tour, which sold out stadiums and arenas all around the world, concluded with the Summer XS performance at Wembley Stadium in July 1991, in front of 80,000 people. Live Baby Live, their 1991 CD, was released to highlight their live flair and to commemorate their Wembley concert. Welcome to Wherever You Are, INXS's 1992 release, has become an immediate classic for those who have followed the band over the years. The album has a re-energized and revitalized INXS, and it is their most inventive effort to date. Songs like Not Enough Time, Heaven Sent, Taste It, Beautiful Girl, and Communication, brimming with inventiveness and great hooks, highlight the band's capacity to persist and evolve with the times. Communication has a dazzling array of computer produced sounds and samples, and for Baby Don't Cry and Men and Women, they enlist the help of a complete 60-piece orchestra. Despite falling just shy of platinum status, the record remains a fan favorite. INXS released Full Moon, Dirty Hearts after a brief globe pub tour meant to thank longstanding supporters with tiny concerts in private bars. The album, which was recorded in early 1993, was initially meant to be a companion piece to Welcome..., despite the fact that their genres are extremely different. INXS return to their beginnings with Full Moon, Dirty Hearts, crafting songs that are fast, stripped down, and honest. On the CD, the band also performs two duets: Please (You've Got That...) with Ray Charles and Full Moon, Dirty Hearts with Chrissy Hyndes of the Pretenders. The lead single, the rocking guitar hymn The Gift, was followed by the release of a video for every single song on the new album, made by filmmaker Richard Lowenstein's protegees. Following the economic and critical failure of the Full Moon, Dirty Hearts album, INXS moved record labels from Atlantic to Polygram and began work on a best of compilation disc. The Strangest Party, a throwback to their very famous and lucrative hook-filled songs of the late 1980s, is included on INXS The Greatest Hits. The album, released in late 1994, is a dizzying ride of excellence, demonstrating INXS's strength and influence over the music business for more than a decade. From their first huge success, The One Thing, to their most recent blockbuster hit, The Strangest Party, the greatest hits compilation demonstrates to all that INXS is still relevant in rock music and that they will continue to achieve new heights for many years to come. Suicide was the initial conclusion reached when INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence was discovered dead and dressed in his birthday suit in a Sydney, Australia hotel. It was later claimed that Hutchence's death was caused by a form of sensual foreplay known as B.C.P. (Breath-Control Play), because he had no reason to hang himself after just being married and finding a new house for him and his wife. The premise behind BCP is that the bloodrush from lightly hanging oneself from the neck and head rushes right to the genitalia, increasing orgasm. Regardless of the allegations surrounding Hutchence's death, INXS' remaining members indulged in indefinite arrogance for many years. They conducted a talent contest on national television to determine Hutchence's replacement, exposing themselves to the press once more. When the surviving members of the band heard their would-be new vocalist, JD Fortune, on stage for the audition, they found a godsend. INXS has been in full gear since the talent competition and the discovery of JD Fortune, releasing Pretty Vegas, a smash-hit single, and touring across the country. Think again if you believed one of the few decent things to come out of the 1980s had died. The biography was submitted by prettyboyalex.
