Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence were both in high school when they first met. They first met when Andrew intervened in a quarrel in which Michael was engaged. The two became immediate friends and discovered that they had a deep interest in the same thing - music.
By the conclusion of their high school years, around 1977, Andrew, his two brothers Tim and Jon, Kirk Pengilly, Garry Gary Beers, and Michael had established a band named The Farriss Brothers.
