Ian Crozier is an American physician who acquired the Ebola virus while working in West Africa in September 2014. Crozier was born in the modern-day Zimbabwean city of Masvingo. When he was ten years old, his family relocated to the United States. Crozier began to show symptoms of Ebola on September 6th. Crozier was evacuated to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 9 after contracting the disease, becoming the third American to be transferred there for Ebola treatment. He stayed for forty days before being released on October 19, 2014, the longest stay of any Ebola patient in the United States. In a December 2014 interview with the New York Times, he disclosed his true identity. He said he wanted to speak up to praise Emory University for the medical treatment he got as a patient there and to bring attention to the epidemic that was still going on at the time. Despite the fact that the Ebola virus had not been detected in Crozier's blood for months, the infection was identified in his eye in May 2015.
