Iain Roberts Biography

Iain is a self-described "excellence freak" whose lifelong enthusiasm for combining technological accuracy with cutting-edge aesthetics has resulted in award-winning ideas and strategies for companies including Altec Lansing, AT&T, Ford, Kraft, and Motorola. Our London studio's IDEO Partner is in charge of managing senior client connections with Fortune 500 leaders. Meanwhile, his desire to push the boundaries of digital and physical media has resulted in successful open-source innovation trials with industry upstart BugLabs. Since 2007, Iain has taught at colleges and business conferences around the United States on themes such as consumer-centered design, design-driven company strategies, ethical consumption, package design, and open innovation. Iain worked at Dyson before joining IDEO in 2001, where he was in charge of directing a team of more than 60 designers on projects ranging from R&D to concept development for the firm's appliance design studio. He graduated from the Royal College of Art with a master's degree in industrial design engineering and Southampton University with a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering, and he continues to push himself intellectually and physically via endurance sports, cycling, and trekking.
