Hugh Mangum grew up in Los Angeles, California. With his Texas-born father and Bronx-bred mother, he ate his way around the city. Hugh was a self-taught drummer who traveled with bands like The Wallflowers and A Perfect Circle around the country. With the death of his loving father in 1999, his life was forever changed.
Hugh took a detour from music to study at The French Culinary Institute in New York. Hugh met and fell in love with Laura, his future wife, midway through his year-long stay in New York, and chose to make the city his home. Hugh graduated from the FCI in 2001 and was transferred to Jean-Georges to visit Greg Brainin.
