His mother (Paula Flores) is Puerto Rican, and his father (Hoke Dorough) is Irish American. He was born in Orlando, Florida. Howard Dorough had a desire to be in the entertainment industry since he was three years old, when he would climb on his grandparents' bed and sing Baby Face while playing his small guitar.
Dorough got his start in show business at the age of six, when he performed in an Orlando production of The Wizard of Oz. This was only the first of a string of musicals he would play in the local Orlando scene. He was active in drama and choir throughout high school.
