Holger Hoock is an eighteenth-century historian who specializes in the history of Britain and the British Empire. Scars of Independence: America's Violent Birth is his most recent book. Other novels he has written include The King's Artists and Empires of the Imagination.
Hoock has been a Kluge Fellow at the Library of Congress, a Visiting Scholar at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Konstanz, as well as a Visiting Professor at his alma mater, the University of Freiburg.
