Hernan Diaz is an American novelist and academic. Raised in Sweden and based in New York City, he is best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “Trust” (2022), which also won the Kirkus Prize and became a New York Times bestseller. The novel explores wealth, truth, and narrative through four conflicting accounts set in 1920s and 1930s New York.
His debut novel, “In the Distance” (2017), a Western about a Swedish immigrant, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award. Diaz’s work often examines American identity, capitalism, and storytelling. He holds a Ph.D. from NYU, has served as managing editor of Revista Hispánica Moderna at Columbia University, and received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2018.
