About Heather MacDonald
Heather MacDonald Biography
Heather's coverage at City Journal has included policing and "racial" profiling, homelessness and homeless activism, educational policy, the New York courts, and business improvement districts. The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, New York Times, The New Republic, Partisan Review, The New Criterion, Public Interest, and Academic Questions have all published Ms. Mac Donald's work. Her book, The Burden of Bad Ideas, is a compilation of articles from the pages of City Journal that examines the impact of the counterculture's catastrophic march across America's institutions throughout the 1960s. Her most recent book, Are Cops Racist? (another City Journal anthology), explores police operations, the debate over so-called racial profiling, and the anti-profiling lobby's negative impact on black Americans. Ms. Mac Donald, a non-practicing lawyer, has clerked for the Honorable Stephen Reinhardt of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, worked as an attorney-adviser in the Office of the General Counsel of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and volunteered with the National Resource Defense Fund in New York City. She has testified before the Committee of the Judiciary of the United States House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Civil and Constitutional Rights. Because of her City Journal writings on education, she was named to Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's task group on the City University of New York in 1998. She also appears often on Fox News, CNN, and other television and radio shows. Ms. Mac Donald obtained her B.A. in English from Yale University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Mellon Fellowship to Cambridge University, where she earned her M.A. in English and studied in Italy with the help of a Clare College study grant. Her law degree is from Stanford University. Heather Mac Donald is a New York City-based artist.
