Harvey Mansfield is known for his traditional stance on political issues in his writings as well as being an author, professor and political philosopher. At Harvard, he is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Government. Harvey Mansfield Sr., who was his father, was the Ruggles Professor Emeritus of Public Law and Government at Columbia University.
His father died in the year 1988. Mansfield enrolled at Harvard in 1949 as a student and has been there ever since. He joined the faculty in 1962, received his B.A. at Harvard in 1953, served in the United States Army, and also received his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1961.
