Lillian C. (née Vines), a laundress, and Harry Lennix, Jr., a machinist, raised Lennix, the youngest of four siblings, in Chicago, Illinois. Lennix's father was a Louisiana Creole. Lennix studied acting and direction at Quigley Preparatory Seminary South and Northwestern University. He is a regular lecturer and has taught music and civics in the Chicago Public School system for numerous years. Lennix featured Rev. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., the renowned Harlem Congressman from 1944 to 1972, in the made-for-cable television film Keep the Faith, Baby, which premiered on Showtime Networks on February 17, 2002. The Matrix trilogy, The Five Heartbeats, the Spike Lee picture Get on the Bus, Stomp the Yard, Ray, Love & Basketball, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, and the State of Play have all featured Lennix in minor parts. He had a recurrent part as Agent Ron Wagner in Diagnosis: Murder on television, as well as a voice-over role in the Legion of Super-Heroes animated series. As Aaron the Moor, he appeared in the ABC television series Commander in Chief and the film Titus (based on Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus). In the sixth season of 24 as fictitious Muslim civil rights activist Walid Al-Rezani, he had a recurring role. He played a crippled jazz trumpet player on House M.D., and he played Dr. Greg Fischer in six episodes of ER. He was also featured in the first season of Ally McBeal's episode The Blame Game. In Joss Whedon's series Dollhouse, he portrayed Boyd Langton, and in the comedic sketch show Little Britain USA, he played the President of the United States.
