Harry Demetriou rose to prominence in the poker world after finishing third in the $2,000 no-limit Texas hold 'em event at the 2002 World Series of Poker, winning $80,200. He finished 18th in the 2004 WSOP Main Event when he was irritated by Josh Arieh's confrontational demeanor. Demetriou won $147,500 for finishing second in the competition.
He received $163,850 as of the runner-up in the $2,500 short-handed no-limit hold'em tournament at the 2005 World Series of Poker. At the 2006 WSOP, he also made the final table of the same tournament, finishing 6th.
