Harry Demetriou rose to prominence in the poker world after finishing third in the $2,000 no-limit Texas hold 'em event at the 2002 World Series of Poker, winning $80,200. He finished 18th in the 2004 WSOP Main Event when he was irritated by Josh Arieh's confrontational demeanor. Demetriou won $147,500 for finishing second in the competition. He received $163,850 as of the runner-up in the $2,500 short-handed no-limit hold'em tournament at the 2005 World Series of Poker. At the 2006 WSOP, he also made the final table of the same tournament, finishing 6th. Despite his WSOP victories, he has criticized the 2005 WSOP for event disorganization, the 2006 WSOP's HORSE event, a change to the format of the 2006 WSOP's shootout event, and rules ruling in the 2006 WSOP main event. Demetriou finished fifth in the World Poker Tour (WPT) Season 2 Invitational event's final table. In season 5, Demetriou made his second WPT final table, becoming runner-up.
