Hal Sirkin Biography
Hal Sirkin is a senior partner at The Boston Consulting Group's (BCG) Chicago office and a specialist in globalization, operations, innovation, and change management. He is also the primary author of BCG's ongoing research on "reshoring" - the rising trend of manufacturing returning to the United States from China and other nations. Because of the global economics of production, he and his coauthors expect a “manufacturing renaissance” in the United States beginning around 2015. Hal was formerly the worldwide chief of BCG's Operations practice, which included manufacturing, procurement, supply chain management, asset productivity, and cost reduction. He was formerly the worldwide chief of the firm's Information Technology and E-Commerce practices. He has been with the business for over 30 years and has considerable knowledge in a wide range of issues, sectors, and regions. Hal has been on CNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox Business Channel, Bloomberg, NPR, and a variety of other broadcast sources. He has also written for major newspapers and magazines, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Economist, Newsweek, and Time. Furthermore, he has published or coauthored several papers, including three Harvard Business Review feature articles: “Fix the Process, Not the Problems” (1990), “Innovating for Cash” (2003), and “The Hard Side of Change” (2006). (2005). Other publications include WSJ.com, HBR.org, Barron's, Strategy and Leadership, the Journal of Business Strategy, The Huffington Post, and IndustryWeek. He currently writes a weekly column for Businessweek.com's Management Blog. He graduated from the University of Chicago with an MBA (first in his class) and a BS from the Wharton School (summa cum laude). He is also a Certified Public Accountant and a Professor at the Kellogg School of Business.
