Hal Carper Biography

Hal is a leader in Tyson Foods' strategic planning initiatives as group vice president for Research and Development, Logistics, and Technical Services. Food safety and quality assurance, information systems, animal well-being, purchasing, distribution, environmental, health, and safety, and the company's pet products business, which includes True Chews® brand, Nudges® brand, and Top Chews® dog treats and chews, have all been added to his responsibilities since 2008. After Tyson Foods bought meat processor IBP, Inc. in 2001, Hal joined the firm as senior vice president and general manager of the prepared foods segment. Hal began his career in IBP's Food brands America division as a senior vice president in charge of sales, marketing, research, and development. Prior to joining IBP, Hal worked for Iceland Seafood Corp., where he held different leadership positions from 1992 to 1999, eventually rising to become the company's president and CEO. Hal was also a board member for Gelmer, a European seafood processor. Hal previously spent 14 years with Eastern Airlines, where he held several managerial roles, and seven years with Sara Lee Meat Group, where he was senior vice president. When Hal began working at his family's restaurant, he grew interested in the food sector. He was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Georgia State University.
