In 1995, Guy Ritchie directed a film called The Hard Case. In 1998, he released his first genuinely successful film, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. The film's humor was warmly appreciated, with comparisons to Quentin Tarantino's The Sting and The Italian Job.
It also launched actor Jason Statham's career as a film actor and launched former football player Vinnie Jones's career as a film actor. Snatch, his second film, was another caper comedy, this time financed by a big studio, and was released in 2000. Brad Pitt, Benicio del Toro, and Dennis Farina were among the film's cast members.
