VSCO was created by Lutze and Joel Flory. Despite the embarrassment of riches generated by a slew of solitary programmers, the VSCO founders had no intention of getting rich quickly. They were doing very well, thank you, cultivating a little business selling digital editing software to professionals like photographers and graphic designers. Everything changed when VSCO Cam 2.0 was released in June. The free iOS app includes presets (photo filters) and basic editing capabilities, all neatly packaged into a tiny social platform. Users may save created picture grids within the app or share their favorites on social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Weibo. The software has tremendous popularity that extends far beyond professional photographers, with over a million downloads in its first week. Amateur photographers are also sharing their postage-stamp-sized oeuvres at an astonishing pace thanks to a hashtag (#vscocam is automatically added when images are shot or edited in its app). There are almost 4 million VSCO-tagged pictures on Instagram alone. Lutze graduated from George Fox University with a degree in Business Marketing. Lutze worked as a Creative Director at design companies in Seattle and New York before co-founding VSCO.
