Greg Bates Biography

Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Greg Bates is a unique Country music artist and a product of Music City with a penchant for well-written lyrics. He developed his performing and songwriting skills at Belmont University and in no time, Music industry heads were attracted to his talent. According to Greg, “The first day that I figured out that you can tell a story with three chords in three minutes and just kill somebody emotionally, I was hooked,” he says. “The stories are what really drew me to country music.” Greg signed a co-publishing/artist development deal with Effusion Entertainment and Super 98 Music – the publishing arm of the Big Machine Label Group after he graduated, and his journey to “living the dream” began. His debut project was recorded with Jimmy Ritchey, a songwriter and hit producer who listened to Greg’s original demo. Greg recorded a creative album and all songs were written/co-written by Greg. In his words, “for me, this album is about getting back to country music,” Greg says. “There’s nothing wrong with what’s on the radio nowadays, but I think there is a huge hole where that traditional sound used to be.” A song on the album which paid homage to one of Greg’s idols George Strait, “Did It for the Girl,” his debut single, made it to Top 5 on the charts. In February, “Fill in the Blank,” Greg’s second single, hit Country radio and during its release week, it became the #1 most added song. This single got featured on Nashville, an ABC series. Greg’s upcoming album will be a combination of songs that will connect with today’s youthful demographic, while honoring his music idols George Strait, Alan Jackson and Dwight Yoaka. Bates is currently headlining shows across the country and has been privileged to share stages with Alan Kackson, Alabama, Willie Nelson and Darius Rucker.
