After colliding with a rock wall at a speed of over 40 m/ph on July 21, 2013, while competing in a bicycle event in the Italian Alps, Grant Lottering's heart stopped. He required two defibrillations to restart his heart at the scene. He suffered considerable internal bleeding and had 22 of his bones broken in the collision. Doctors told him that while he had avoided death, it was impossible for him to ride a bicycle once more. Grant addresses audiences all over the world and raises millions of dollars for disadvantaged children through his yearly solo, extreme-endurance Im'possible Tours. He speaks about his experience of dying and utilizes his second shot at life to be relevant. Lottering created the first of his yearly Im'possible Tours in 2014 following his nearly deadly accident in Italy, displaying tenacity in the face of disaster time and time again. Lottering returned to cycling for the first Im'possible Tour in 2014 after just 11 months, six operations, and approximately 100 sessions of rehabilitation. He finished the event that had come dangerously close to taking his life. Lottering finished his first Im'possible Tour in the United States on June 4, 2022, riding by himself for 986 kilometers (51 hours and 40 minutes) from Shaver Lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Big Bear Lake north of Los Angeles while climbing more than 18,000 meters in support of Laureus Sport for Good USA.
