Alonzo Mathis, best known by his stage name Gorilla Zoe, is an Atlanta, Georgia-based American hip hop musician. Mathis began his career as a member of the Bad Boy Records group Boyz n da Hood, replacing Young Jeezy on songs such as Coffee Shop and Bottle Poppin', which peaked in many Billboard categories. Welcome to the Zoo, his debut solo album, was released in October 2007 and peaked at #18 on the Billboard Top 200, #3 on Top Rap Albums, and #8 on Top R&B Albums. Gorilla Zoe is an Atlanta rapper who succeeded Young Jeezy in the Bad Boy group Boyz N da Hood. Both Atlanta natives have scratchy voices, sluggish flows, basic rhymes, and a blatant fascination with the illegal drug trade, particularly cocaine. Coffee Shop, a 2007 hit by Bad Boy labelmate Yung Joc, was Gorilla Zoe's first taste of mainstream success. Hood Nigga, Gorilla Zoe's first solo track, was released shortly after, along with his first album, Welcome to the Zoo. Back Up N da Chevy, his debut album as Jeezy's replacement in Boyz N da Hood, was released the following year. Everybody Knows Me and We Ready were among the album's hits.
