Gerard Gallant is a hockey coach and former NHL player who was born on September 2, 1963. He is the Florida Panthers' head coach and a former assistant coach with the Montreal Canadiens. Gallant was selected in the sixth round, 107th overall, at the 1981 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
As a left-winger for the Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning, he scored 211 goals in 615 games. He also has 18 goals in the playoffs. Gallant was recognized as a power forward during his tenure with the Red Wings, despite his modest frame (5 ft 10 in, 180 pounds).
