Gelan Lambert Biography

Gelan Lambert is of Haitian descent and he’s originally from Miami, FL. Ben Brantley of the New York Times describes him as “the brilliant, tap dance artist sui generis.” He played the role of JK (rhythm tapper)/Ogungun in the World Broadway Tour in Bill T. Jones' FELA! He has a BFA in dance and is a graduate of The Juilliard School. He also received training at The Joffrey Ballet School, School of American Ballet, The Ailey School and Broadway Theater Project. A long list of his professional credits are the Sean Curran Company, Fosse (1st National Tour), A Christmas Carol (Madison Square Garden Theater), Encores Golden Boy, NYCOpera's Alcina/Turandot, The Martha Graham Dance Company, and a featured performer for Jacob's Pillow Katherine Dunham Tribute conceived and directed by Reginald Yates. Also performed solo concerts at Florida International Univ., City Center Studio, Long Island University, Jacob's Pillow, George Faison Firehouse Theater and Stella Adler Studio (Resident Artist). He’s been awarded and honored with the National Foundation for Advancement of Arts-1st Place, Presidential Scholar for the Arts, National Society of Arts and Letters-1st Place, a Jerome Foundation Fellow to Ghana, West Africa and Martha Hill Prize from The Juilliard School. He’s an assistant to Reginald Yates who is a dance educator and master choreographer and also acts as a principal artist. He has danced for the likes of Jiri Kylian, Jose Limon, Donald McKayle, Mia Michaels, Reginald Yates, Alvin Ailey, Hinton Battle, Margie Gillis and many more.
