Gary R. Habermas was born in the year 1950, just outside of Detroit, Michigan. Despite his Christian upbringing and attendance at a German Baptist Church, he began to have significant questions about Christianity. He investigated various religious and non-religious systems, particularly naturalism, for more than 10 years while he struggled with core Christian truths.
His research mostly focused on examining alternative world views, with occasional glimpses of what he believed to be the correct method. As he recounts, "the last thing I did at night was recollected what I had learned that day to enhance my study" at this period.
