Galina Tachieva Biography

Galina Tachieva is a planner, urban designer, and architect with over 20 years of expertise in sustainable urbanism, urban redevelopment, sprawl repair, and form-based codes. She is the award-winning author of the Sprawl Repair Manual (Island Press) and the SmartCode Sprawl Repair Module. Tachieva, who is multilingual, has worked on projects in the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Russia, including regional planning, environmental conservation, new communities, resort towns, downtowns and urban infill, and commercial, retail, institutional, and residential structures. She has managed complicated projects and teams, as well as conducted charrettes and other public procedures from project inception to completion. Tachieva is still involved in public life. She is a member of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) and leads the organization's national Sprawl Retrofit Initiative. She is a co-founder of the Council for European Urbanism (CEU) and has spoken all over the world. She has lectured and critiqued design at Harvard University, the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), and the University of Miami.
