Gale Anne Hurd Biography

Gale Anne Hurd is a recognized and inventive film and television producer in the entertainment business. Hurd has created and produced films that have received Academy Award® nominations on a regular basis, as well as television shows that have won Emmys and broken ratings records. Hurd has built out a prominent place in the formerly male-dominated realm of the blockbuster, and become a renowned maker of iconic cultural touchstones, by consistently choosing risky material, supporting technological advancements, and remaining hands-on in her approach. Hurd worked on AMC's popular television drama The Walking Dead, which she co-created and executive produced with director Frank Darabont. The Walking Dead became one of the most viewed drama programs in basic cable history, and it debuted in over 120 countries and 33 languages around the world. Hurd also wrote and illustrated the Aspen Comics comic book The Scourge, which was written by Scott Lobdell and drawn by Eric Battle. She has also worked as a producer on The Walking Dead spin-offs such as The Talking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. Hurd's producing career began when she produced and co-wrote The Terminator, following a successful ascent from Roger Corman's executive assistant to director of marketing. This triumph was shortly followed by the Oscar-winning films The Abyss and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, as well as Aliens, which garnered seven nominations and two Academy Awards®. Hurd's production company, Valhalla Entertainment, develops and produces a wide range of projects, including Marvel's big success The Incredible Hulk, starring Edward Norton. Hurd's most recent projects include the futuristic sci-fi thriller Aeon Flux, the sequels to the famous Marvel comic The Punisher and The Punisher: War Zone, and The Hulk, directed by Academy Award® winner Ang Lee. Hurd was also an executive producer on Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Armageddon, Dante's Peak, The Relic, Dick, the political comedy, and The Ghost And The Darkness, among many more. Hurd sits on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is a Vice-Chair of the Producers Guild of America's Executive Committee, and co-chairs the PGA's Produced By Conference. She is the chair of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship Committee, a member of the Producers Branch's Executive Committee, and a member of the Film Festival Grants Committee. Hurd, who enjoys scuba diving, is on the Advisory Boards of Heal the Bay and Reef Check.
