Francine Lucas-Sinclair Biography

Genuine. Dynamic. Funny and powerful at the same time. Francine Lucas-Sinclair is described by audience members in a variety of ways. And it's no surprise, given her amazing personal journey from tragedy to victory. Francine Lucas, the daughter of Frank and Julie Lucas, was three years old when a task team comprised of ten DEA agents and ten NYPD detectives from the Organized Crime Control Bureau (OCCB) raided her house and arrested her father on drug trafficking charges. Francine entered the Federal Witness Protection Program after her father promised to name corrupt law enforcement personnel in return for a reduced sentence. She spent the next three years concealing her true identity, as well as her anguish and despair. Francine eventually moved to Puerto Rico with her mother. It was only then that she discovered why her father was imprisoned. And then, almost as quickly as her father vanished from her life, he resurfaced, and her family tried to resume normalcy. Francine's fairy-tale existence, however, did not come true. Francine watched her mother getting detained by Federal Agents in 1984, during what she believed was a family trip to Las Vegas (but was actually a well-planned narcotics operation). Francine committed herself to school and kept out of trouble after being sent to live with her grandparents in Puerto Rico, where she had a better understanding of what her parents had done. She completed high school and went on to the University of Puerto Rico, where she earned a bachelor's degree in public relations. She believed her history was behind her once she entered the business world, but it was not. Her early bad experiences plagued her, causing her to second-guess her actions and hold herself back. She destroyed her present because she was terrified of others finding out about her past. Francine heard in 2001, just as she was putting her life back on track and achieving success in the mortgage sector, that her father had sold his tale to Hollywood for the film American Gangster (released in 2007). Her sentiments, which she believed she could hide, were back—and this time they were on display for everybody to see. She realized she had to do something to rid herself of the spirits. Francine began investigating children whose parents were jailed at that time. She also began working with children's groups to share her story. She discovered that her message of overcoming past disappointments and negative attitudes resonated with a wide range of people, including business executives, working parents, youth, and criminal justice system personnel, during the process. Francine is still speaking and writing on her fundamental message of rising above one's previous experiences and embracing a future full of hope, happiness, and success.
