Fernando Bermudez, who was convicted of murder in 1992 but maintained his innocence throughout, spent nearly two decades in New York's infamous Sing Sing Correctional Facility. However, five witnesses to a fatal Manhattan nightclub shooting recanted their testimony in which they identified Bermudez as the shooter.
After 11 lengthy appeals, a court ruled in 2009 that Bermudez should be totally exonerated. Bermudez's tale has been on national and local news outlets, including the New York Times and the Daily News, as well as all major television networks and TRU TV, previously Court TV.
