SABCO Racing was established, introducing a new NASCAR Cup contender to the scene. It was only the beginning for Felix Sabates, who would go on to have a long and successful NASCAR career. SABCO Racing maintained a restricted schedule for the first three seasons until 1990 when driver Kyle Petty began SABCO Racing's first full season of Cup competition.
During that first full season, Petty captured the team's first pole position and checkered flag in the Goodwrench 500 at North Carolina Speedway. SABCO secured Mello Yello as the major sponsor for the 1994 season the following year. Before breaking his leg and missing 11 races, Petty earned another pole position and win at Rockingham.
