Fatimah Asghar Biography

Fatimah Asghar is a poet, screenwriter, educator, and performer who travels around the country. POETRY Magazine, Gulf Coast, BuzzFeed Reader, The Margins, The Offing, Academy of American Poets, and many more have published her work. Her work has appeared on PBS, NPR, Time, Teen Vogue, Huffington Post, and other venues. While studying theater in post-genocidal nations on a Fulbright in 2011, she founded REFLEKS, a spoken word poetry ensemble in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is a member of the Dark Noise Collective, as well as a recipient of the Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship in 2017 and a Kundiman Fellow. Her chapbook After was published by Yes Yes Books in the fall of 2015. She is the writer and co-creator of Brown Girls, an Emmy-nominated online comedy about black women's friendships. If They Come For Us, her first collection of poems, will be published by One World/Random House in the summer of 2018.
