About Erica Enders-Stevens

Erica Enders-Stevens Biography

Erica Lee Enders-Stevens (born October 8, 1983 in Houston, Texas) is an NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Pro Stock driver from the United States. Enders-Stevens began racing at the age of eight in 1992. The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum has her original Enders Racing Junior Dragster vehicle on display. Enders-Stevens won the Division 4 Junior Dragster title in the 8 to 9 year old class in 1993, and she was awarded Junior Dragster Driver of the Year in 1995. She won 37 races in her eight years of junior dragster competition. She became the youngest NHRA national event finalist in 2000, at the age of 16, when she advanced to her first national event final (Houston). She won the NHRA Sportsman Rookie of the Year award. Enders-Stevens became the 35th woman in NHRA history to win a national event in the Super Gas class in Houston in 2004. In 2005, she became the first woman to participate in the NHRA's Pro Stock Category since 1993, the first woman in NHRA history to qualify in the top half of a Pro Stock field, and the first woman to reach a Pro Stock final round (at Chicago). Enders-Stevens won more rounds in 2005 than any other female driver in NHRA Pro Stock history combined, and she was a nominee for the season's highest rookie award, the "Road to the Future." Enders-Stevens became the first woman to qualify first in Pro Stock (at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas) in 2006, and she finished second in the Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. She returned to Cagnazzi Racing in 2011 and set a national speed record in Pro Stock at 213.57 mph (343.71 km/h) in the Gainesville round, defeating 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kurt Busch in Round One. Enders-Stevens became the first woman to win an NHRA Pro Stock race on July 2, 2012, when she defeated four-time champion Greg Anderson in the finals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois. Her winning time for the 1,320-foot run was 6.627 seconds. Enders-Stevens finished a career-best fourth in the Countdown to the Championship in NHRA Pro Stock in 2012, and he followed it up with a sixth-place result in 2013. Following the 2013 season, Enders-Stevens announced that he will leave Cagnazzi Racing and join Elite Motorsports for the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, driving the team's new Camaro. She presently owns both sides of the NHRA National Record for Pro Stock, 6.464 seconds and 215.55 mph (346.89 km/h), which she achieved in 2014 in Englishtown, NJ. Enders-Stevens became the first woman to win the NHRA Pro Stock World Championship in 2014, winning six races that year (each NHRA event victory needs four consecutive victories against competitors chosen from the sixteen fastest cars at that event), including the season-ending Auto Club NHRA Finals. Enders-Stevens set two new female NHRA records in 2015. In September, she won her 19th career NHRA national race at Charlotte's zMax Dragway, breaking Shirley Muldowney's Top Fuel record for the most NHRA national event wins by a female driver. Enders-Stevens won her eighth race of the season at the Texas Motorplex in October, beating Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Angelle Sampey's single-season record of seven wins set in 2001. In 2015, Enders-Stevens won the NHRA Pro Stock World Championship for the second time in a row. Enders-Stevens is the elder sister of junior dragster driver Courtney Enders; they both attended Cypress Springs High School. Her boyfriend Richie Stevens, Jr. (also a drag racer) proposed after she won her first national event in Pro Stock. On December 7, 2012, the couple married. Enders-Stevens and her sister's life story was transformed into a Disney Original Movie, Right on Track, in 2003. Beverley Mitchell portrayed Erica, while Brie Larson portrayed Courtney.
