About Eric Kripke

Eric Kripke Biography

Kripke was born in the city of Toledo in the state of Ohio. Eric, a Sylvania Southview High School alumnus from 1992, used to make home videos with his pals to present to other students. Kripke wrote and directed two films in 1997, Battle of the Sexes and Truly Committed, after graduating from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts in 1996 as a member of the Gamma Eta Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha. He went on to create and write for The WB's Tarzan, a 2003 television series that was canceled after eight episodes, and then penned the 2005 feature Boogeyman. Boogeyman 2 was released as a sequel to the first film. He also worked as an associate producer on The Adjustment Bureau, a romantic action thriller released in 2011. He is presently working on his debut theatrical picture, Haunted, which will be released in 2012. In August 2011, it was revealed that Kripke will be creating a series based on the DC Comics character Deadman for The CW Television Network, but nothing came of it. He did, however, develop the NBC series Revolution. Along with J.J. Abrams, Kripke acted as executive producer on the film. Kripke created a script for the film Boogeyman, which was released in early 2005, prior to his breakthrough with Supernatural. The story revolves around Tim, who is played by Barry Watson. Tim, who has recently lost his mother, returns home to face the mysterious entity he believes killed his father and is also responsible for his mother's death. Critics panned the film, but it does provide viewers a peek at how Kripke's writing approach has evolved over time. Despite remaining in the supernatural genre, Kripke's writing has shifted away from psychological themes and toward a focus on the characters' actions and relationships with one another. In 2005, Kripke developed the television series Supernatural, which follows two brothers as they fight demons, poltergeists, and other supernatural forces. After acting as the show's principal showrunner for the first five seasons, Kripke is now a hands-on executive producer on the series. He is known for developing a unique five-year plan. The first season of Supernatural aired on The WB. It now airs on The CW, which was formed after The WB and UPN merged in 2006. Some members of the Supernatural fanbase refer to him as Lord Kripke. The program is praised for properly citing much of its mystical knowledge, in addition to the intrigue produced by the characters themselves. Following the fifth season of Supernatural, Kripke stepped aside as the show's principal showrunner and began working on other projects. NBC has selected one of these projects, named Revolution. It was picked up by NBC for the 2012-2013 season, and it follows a group of people who are trying to live and reunite with loved ones in a post-apocalyptic world where everything electrical has inexplicably stopped working, as well as their fight to end the blackout. Billy Burke appears in the film, which also features Giancarlo Esposito, Elizabeth Mitchell, Tracy Spiridakos, Graham Rogers, and Anna Lise Phillips. Revolution has a Metacritic score of 64 out of 32, with the New York Times's Glenn Garvin describing it as "a huge, brash, and brassy adventure, a cowboys-and-Indians narrative for the end times." Kripke is married and has a kid, who shares Kripke's character Sam Winchester's birthday, May 2. Saul Kripke, a well-known analytic philosopher, is his second cousin once removed.
