Kripke was born in the city of Toledo in the state of Ohio. Eric, a Sylvania Southview High School alumnus from 1992, used to make home videos with his pals to present to other students.

Kripke wrote and directed two films in 1997, Battle of the Sexes and Truly Committed, after graduating from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts in 1996 as a member of the Gamma Eta Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha.
