Jack Levi, an Australian comedian, developed the character Elliot Goblet. The character's deadpan delivery of one-line gags has been compared to that of American comedian Steven Wright. Goblet was initially shown wearing round spectacles and sporting a goatee beard, but the beard was eventually removed.
The Goblet character was created with the help of Australian comedy teacher Pete Crofts and debuted on television with appearances on Hey Hey It's Saturday, The Eleventh Hour, Statesmen of Comedy, and other Australian variety and sketch shows.
