Elliot Chodoff Biography

Elliot Chodoff is a political and military commentator who focuses on the Middle East crisis and the worldwide anti-terrorist campaign. Deterrence and US Military Manpower Policy, Cultural Relativism and Nuclear Deterrence Policy in the Middle East, Israel's Changing Defense Posture After the 1982 Invasion of Lebanon, and Terrorists' Use of Modern Information Technology are among the topics he has addressed and published papers on. His work on Combat Motivation and Effectiveness in Infantry Units was on the US Army War College's recommended reading list. His work has appeared in the Washington Times, the National Post of Canada, In the National Interest, Front Page Magazine, and a variety of other print and online publications. Elliot is the founder and senior editor of the e-journal and newsletter MidEast: On Target. Elliot is a major in the Israeli Defense Forces reserves and a Home Front Command Senior Commanders Course graduate. He is now the Deputy Chief of Staff for Population at Home Front Command for Israel's Northern Region. During the 2006 Lebanon War, he spent five weeks on active service in that position in the north. In the summer of 2005, he served in Gush Katif during the Gaza Disengagement, and in 2004, he was part of the rescue squad following the bombing of the Taba Hilton. He's also an expert in infantry weaponry and tactics, and he trains infantry and paratroop commanders in field craft and small unit tactics. In 2006, he was awarded the IDF Home Front Command Outstanding Officer Award.
