In Hamburg, Rome, and Berkeley, she studied sociology, journalism, communication psychology, and cognitive linguistics. Her doctorate study was in political cognition and moral judgment, and she received a Ph.D. in cognitive linguistics from the University of California in Berkeley. She's been a postdoctoral scholar at Berkeley's International Computer Science Institute since 2013.
