Elisa is the CEO and Executive Director of Human Rights First, a major human rights advocacy group in the United States. Human Rights First strives to promote human rights and the rule of law all around the world. Massimino joined Human Rights First in 1991 and served as its Washington director for more than a decade until being elected CEO in 2008. Massimino has testified before Congress dozens of times and publishes often for mainstream newspapers and specialist journals as a national authority on human rights law and policy. Massimino was designated one of the country's top 20 public advocates by Washington's The Hill newspaper in 2008. Massimino teaches human rights advocacy at Georgetown University Law Center, where she is an adjunct professor. She is a member of the Supreme Court bar in the United States.
