Elena Sigman Biography

Elena Sigman is no stranger to the challenges that involvement in the criminal justice system creates for people. In 2011 she joined the Prisoner Reentry Institute—an initiative hosted at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York to connect returning citizens to career opportunities and support. Prior to that Sigman worked with the NYC Justice Corps and the Women’s Prison Association among other nonprofit initiatives. Now at PRI she’s heading up Tech 101: a first-of-its-kind initiative to teach formerly incarcerated people the basics of technology. To build out the course she’s worked closely with PRI’s team of educators and staff as well as people who have experienced incarceration to understand their greatest technology needs and how a course could meet them where they are in their understanding of technology. This year Sigman is focused on extending Tech 101 while also introducing a new module specifically to train people in the technology that underpins work in the human services sector.
