Elaine Pasqua's mother and stepfather were both diagnosed with AIDS in 1989. Because of the stigma associated with this virus, she followed her parents' wishes and kept their contagious status hidden. Elaine was determined to speak up after witnessing the disease's ravages while caring for them.
She didn't want others to go through the grief and loss that her family had gone through again. She has been promoting the idea that AIDS is a disease that affects everyone since 1995.
