Elaine Brown was born and raised in a run-down row home on York Street. Her mother worked in a factory pressing garments. In a good area, she went to an experimental primary school. She befriended several white Jewish girls and was able to act white with her schoolmates while hanging out with the females in her neighborhood from then on.
Brown went to Philadelphia High School for Girls, which is known for its academic excellence. Because of her high IQ, she got accepted. Brown wrote songs about her life experiences as a pianist, songwriter, and vocalist.
