Ela Ben-Ur Biography

Ela is a firm believer in the potential of human-centered design and design thinking to enable people to shape their own lives, companies, services, communities, and worlds. She thinks that innovation is primarily about human experiences: the experiences that inspire individuals to create, as well as the experiences of all those who are impacted by an innovation, which lead to it being welcomed and influential. She consults, coaches, and teaches in design research, strategy, and innovation through her independent company i2i Experience, in collaboration with other senior IDEO alumni, through organizations such as Experience Point (IDEO's workshop partner), and at academic institutions such as Olin College. Ela spent thirteen years at IDEO immersed in the people and process of design. Ela was a Content Guide until she left in October 2012, advising teams and clients in Design Research and Strategy. During her time at IDEO, she worked to share design thinking with professionals and young people by leading collaborative transformation projects, workshops, and courses both internally and with organizations such as MIT/Sloan, Olin, Harvard, the Eileen Fisher Leadership Institute, and the International Development Design Summit. She was recruited to assist share the IDEO methodology and culture at IDEO's Shanghai studio as it grew. Ela directed projects at IDEO via front-end user research, opportunity synthesis, idea creation, and prototyping, with expertise in both design research and engineering. Her work included consumer health, finance, communications, consumer electronics, pet, and food & beverage goods, services, packaging, and merchandising. Ela has experience working in both established and emerging economies, as well as for-profit and non-profit organizations. Her work has always centered on positive transformation, including projects including education, senior independence, nutrition, and diabetes for clients such as Beaver Country Day School, Eli Lilly, PepsiCo, GSK, and GM.
