Tufte is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Society for Technical Communication, receiving fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Science, and has been awarded seven honorary Doctorates.
