Since Sangamo's founding in 1995, Edward Lanphier, the company's creator, has served as President, Chief Executive Officer, and a member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Lanphier has worked in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries for over twenty-five years.
He was Executive Vice President, Commercial Development, and Chief Financial Officer of Somatix Therapy Corporation, a gene therapy business, from June 1992 until May 1997. Prior to joining Somatix, he was President and CEO of BioGrowth, Inc., a biotechnology firm that merged with Celtrix Laboratories in 1991 to establish Celtrix Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
