Edmund Morris moved to the United States in 1968 and worked as a freelance writer before becoming a citizen. In 1980, his biography The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt received the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, and its presidential sequel, Theodore Rex, was a bestseller and winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in 2001.

Colonel Roosevelt, the third and final installment of Morris's trilogy on the great "Teddy," was released in November 2010 by Random House. Over 1.5 million copies of the three novels have been sold.
