Edgar Grospiron Biography

Edgar Grospiron was born in 1969 in Lelex, Jura Mountains, and began skiing at the age of 18 months. In 1973, he went to the Alps (then Morzine Avoriaz), eventually settling in Annecy-le-Vieux in 1978. He made his first-team selections in France freestyle skiing in 1982, and he won his first World Cup podium on March 23, 1987, in La Clusaz. Edgar Grospiron won the bronze medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. He became world champion in moguls skiing the next year at the World Championships, and he keeps his title at the 1991 event. He was thus a favorite in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, when skiing was recognized as an Olympic sport for the first time in front of more than 20 000 people, and he won the gold medal. After this triumph, he continues his career, and despite a 36th-place finish at the 1993 World Championships, he wins a new Olympic medal at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics, but it is bronze rather than gold. After retiring from sports, he worked as a management consultant and ski event commentator for several media outlets; he is also a member of the RMC Dream Team radio station and continues to work with the Salomon corporation. Finally, he does not hesitate to return to the France freestyle ski team, where he continues to advise and, of course, impart his knowledge.
